Health and Bodywork

Does your body seem to have a mind of its own?

Whether it’s injury, age, illness, or stress, at some point in time you likely feel your body has betrayed you.

Perhaps one of these situations is part of your experience.

You suffer from a chronic condition – migraines, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, gastric upsets.  You’ve tried specialists and therapists, medications and painkillers, and even alternative treatments such as naturopaths, acupuncture, or other non-traditional healers.  Some days you think you might be getting somewhere – and then there are days when you just plain feel lousy.  You don’t know where to turn – yet you really don’t want to give up.  Is it possible to reclaim your body and feel good again?

The tension of consistent stress feels like it’s pulling your body apart. You know you store stress in your neck and shoulders, or perhaps it all goes directly to your digestive system – or both!   Medication for high blood pressure, antidepressants to calm you down, antacids to quiet your stomach – it seems like everyone has a chemical answer.  You don’t want to rely on pills, but you also don’t like how you feel or – if you’re going to be honest with yourself – how you sometimes behave with family and friends.  How can you  get a handle on stress without having to pop pills or completely change your lifestyle?

You used to feel at home in your body. Whether it was playing sports, going out dancing, or the simple joy of a long walk, your body used to respond naturally and easily.  Now, you feel sore, stiff, uncomfortable – as if it’s not really your body any more.  You hate to think it’s the natural progression of age!  Is there a way to regain your sense of peace and natural physical flow – even as you grow older?

You’re perfectly aware that what you eat and drink has a significant impact on your health. But you like coffee with breakfast, butter on your toast, a good glass of wine with dinner – and other things you know you’re not “supposed” to eat or drink.  Yet you’re not enjoying the ways certain foods make you feel – and you really don’t like the prospect of weight gain and all those other diet-related issues. Can you enjoy a healthier diet and lifestyle without giving up all the things you love to eat?

If these issues sound familiar, Seishindo health and bodywork coaching can help you make significant changes in the quality of your health and your life.

Your body does indeed have a mind of its own.  Fortunately for you, it’s highly intelligent!

My clients understand that a rich life includes many things – rewarding relationships, satisfying activities, and good health.  They take responsibility for the choices they make, and they’re curious about exploring alternatives and learning more about themselves.

Even while they struggle with the stress, pain, or other discomfort that brings them to Seishindo, they know deep down they can find ways to feel more vitally alive.

If this sounds like you, I invite you to continue exploring the philosophy and practice of Seishindo by signing up for my free newsletter.

How Seishindo Health and Bodywork Coaching works

Today’s intellectual, problem-solving approach to life creates a split between mind and body.  Yet in reality, we’re emotional, physical, and intellectual beings.  If you’ve ever had a stress headache or experienced a powerful surge of fear or joy, you know the truth of the body-mind connection.

In Seishindo health and bodywork coaching, we re-introduce you to the natural intelligence of your body.  As you become aware of your breath, posture, and movement, you discover that by inhabiting your body differently, you begin to have an amazingly different experience of yourself and the world around you.

This re-introduction includes four steps.

Learning to breathe

How you breathe has a profound effect on how you perceive the world around you – and how it influences you.  As you learn to breathe in different ways, stress begins to release its grip.  Your body relaxes and finds new ways to move and feel.

Rediscovering posture and physical balance

Posture is so much more than your parents’ instructions to sit up straight!  It includes a multitude of micro-muscular movements in your head, neck, and torso, and it has a profound impact on the functioning of your organs and your psyche.  Using gentle, non-strenuous physical and breathing practices, you can rediscover physical balance – and a corresponding sense of emotional balance and calm.

Listening to the intelligence of your body

At every moment, your subconscious mind speaks to you through your body, using a language that’s as refined, systematic, and complete as verbal language.  Becoming fluent in this language helps you think less – and know more.  Understanding the subtle yet systematic communication of your body creates breakthroughs in your personal health and well-being.

Feeling into your relationship with others

Emotion drives behavior, and invariably overrides rational thinking. Being in healthy relationships with others requires knowing how they feel, more so than knowing what they think. You need to understand the emotional landscape of your counterparts, so you can interact with them in a way that matches their values, beliefs, hopes, and fears. And you need to do so while honoring your own values, beliefs, hopes, and fears.

At one time or another, you’ve done each of these things.

Whether through sports, yoga, meditation, or simply listening to your gut instinct, you’ve experienced each of these steps at many times in your life.

When you engage consciously with all four simultaneously, you become fully aware of and responsive to the language of your breath, posture, and body.  And you’ll experience what I call dynamic relaxation.

Dynamic relaxation combines relaxation with movement and a lively sense of awareness.  You feel alert and fully alive, ready for something good to happen.  You naturally do just enough, nothing more or less, to perform in a graceful, efficient manner, without excess effort or tension.

As you can imagine, the state of dynamic relaxation greatly aids your emotional and physical health.

This is Seishindo health and bodywork coaching

Working in phone sessions (which may include video), we explore your process of whole-body awareness and change.  We discuss lifestyle and diet, of course – but we also uncover the beliefs that drive your life and how they show up in your body.

I teach you practices that help you slow down, breathe, and change your posture and movement to rediscover physical balance.

And throughout we explore the intelligence of your body and how you can learn to respond to the many heartfelt messages it sends you.
