Embodied Mindfulness
Use the wisdom of your body to successfully deal with stress

with Charlie Badenhop and Marleen Adriaensen

Dates:
October 12-13-14, 2007
Time:
Friday, Saturday: 9:30 - 5:30
Sunday: 9:30 – 4:00
Venue: Kasteel den Brandt,
Koetshuis Beukenlaan 12, Antwerp

Stress has become one of the greatest challenges of our time, both in people's personal and professional lives. Stress affects your physical health, emotional well-being and productivity. Recent research suggests that 80% of all illness and half the sick days from work are stress related. You might currently consider stress an inevitable condition in your life. But, it does not have to be that way. By learning how to link the intelligence of your rational mind with the age old wisdom of your body, you can definitely learn to successfully deal with stress.

In this Stress Management workshop you will:

  1. Explore the subtle yet powerful ways your body communicates the onset of stress, and the onset of inner peace.
  2. Discover how to use your body and your breath to change your stress response and reduce its impact on your health, performance, and sense of well-being.
  3. Engage in practices that help you enter into a calming state of Embodied Mindfulness.
  4. Gain an understanding of how slowing down gives you more time to reach your goal.

Something new, something special!
You'll receive an mp3 audio file with Seishindo practices & music, to help extend and integrate your learning experience.

We'll explore the Seishindo Body-Mind Model
The way you use your body, breathe, and move has a major impact on how you feel. Understanding the subtle yet powerful communication of body language, allows you to stress less and relax more! The key is to link the intelligence of your rational mind with the age old wisdom of your body.

  1. Step One: Uncover the behaviours, thought patterns, and body language that lead to stress, and those that lead to inner peace.
  2. Step Two: Engage in mind-body practices to better manage your emotional state and sense of health and well-being.
  3. Step Three: Clarify how you can take responsibility for creating the life you desire.

This Stress management workshop is a good fit for you if most of what's written below, sounds and feels familiar to you:

  • I feel overly tired, I'm unable to recharge my batteries
  • I'm realizing I don't know how to deal with conflict and uncertainty
  • I'm always busy but nothing much gets done
  • I have trouble concentrating and focusing
  • I want to stop and slow down, but I don't know how
  • I often feel tense, nervous, anxious, or depressed
  • I've lost confidence in myself
  • I have problems sleeping
  • I have recurrent headaches, or minor aches and pains
  • Worry seems to follow me around, no matter where I go, and what I'm doing

The effects of stress can show up in every aspect of your daily life. When you're stressed, you feel out of sorts emotionally, your immune system is compromised, your ability to work with focus and clarity is lessened, and your important relationships with others wind up suffering significantly. Eventually, chronic stress makes it difficult to enjoy even the lighter moments in life.

Wouldn't you enjoy life and your relationships a great deal more if you felt like you had a way to deal with stress?

The workshop program will include:

  1. Presentation of background theory
  2. Introduction and demonstration of some simple and effective exercises/practices
  3. Exploration of these practices in small group settings
  4. Music, poetry and a sense of humour
  5. Some playful and calming movement
  6. Debrief, feedback, and future pacing

Share what you've learned; Seek clarification on what was presented. Commit to how you will further cultivate your learning in the future.

What is Seishindo?
This workshop is based upon Seishindo - a human potential discipline developed by Charlie Badenhop. Seishindo is designed to help you live and work in an emotionally balanced, life-affirming manner; to more consistently live with enthusiasm, compassion, and a sense of truly belonging in the world.

Seishindo is a Japanese term which can be said to mean "the cultivation of a pure heart and simple mind" or "the cultivation of the whole self."

The principles, practices, and techniques of Seishindo have been distilled from Charlie Badenhop's years of study in various fields: Aikido, NLP, Ericksonian Hypnosis, the Japanese healing art of sei tai, Self-relations therapy, Gestalt therapy, and Yoga.
The Seishindo workshops are known for their magic, depth of experience, and celebration of life.

How is Seishindo different?
Most people tend to look at events and relationships as the source of stress, but in fact stress is caused by our reaction to events and relationships. Over time, our reactions turn into habitual bodily and emotional responses that occur without our conscious direction.

In Seishindo we look to regain control of our body, so we can choose how we respond to life's many challenges and deal with stress effectively.

Rather than learning how to 'think' differently, you learn how to tap into the intelligence of your body-mind and emotions.
Step by step, the more you learn to tune into the language of your body, the better able you'll be to deal with stress, and live a happy healthy life.

What former participants say about Seishindo workshops
"I have been grateful for the kind support and attention I've received from Charlie and the group. Charlie has read widely and his experience both professional and personal comes through clearly in each class as he gently guides people to make changes big and small. Personally I find that my life is becoming fuller and more meaningful. I'm benefiting from the many diverse elements Charlie weaves into his work. His interactions with me have helped me increase my awareness of myself and others. The classes have assisted me in facing some of my fears which in turn, inevitably lead to me feeling better about myself.

I've taken the time to write this kudo because I'd really like to encourage others to experience Charlie's work. I am pretty certain you'll come away feeling like you have received something truly special."
Joyce Cunningham, Japan

"Charlie Badenhop has been a member of and a contributor to the NLP community for many years. He has brought his knowledge of the martial arts to NLP and shared the movements, philosophy, and art of the special relationship with self and others that can be achieved through Aikido. Charlie has a keen interest in the body as a system with memory, learning ability and problem solving skills. He has held this belief in the face of the cognitive approach which is most prevalent. Charlie has created many innovations in this area that help people heal body, heart and soul.
He has explored deeply the learning process and achieved great results in language learning and other areas. Well there are many more wonderful things I could say about Charlie, but now I will say the last but not the least in any way. Charlie is a kind and true friend.
With respect and love,"
Judith Delozier, co-founder of NLP and co-developer of New Code NLP

"Charlie Badenhop is an extraordinary man. For me, his work offers great insights into the unity of mind and body in clear, simple language that is immediately graspable and at the same time shatters any rigid conceptions one might be holding. The practices I have learned from Charlie are simple, doable, and carry the potential of delivering profound changes."
Mary Ann Giorgio, C. S. W., Brooklyn, New York

"Charlie Badenhop's work is intense and powerful. At the same time, he is very respectful of a person's self-hood and personal boundaries. I highly recommend him."
Terry Tailor Smith, family therapist

"My experience of Charlie and the practices of Seishindo have been nothing short of profound. By tapping into my own somatic and emotional sources of wisdom, I can now come from an authentic place in bringing these practices to my executive coaching clients. I was awed at the life-changing insights participants in his workshops were able to experience with his gentle and humble guidance."
Connie MacKinnon, Executive Coach & Management Consultant, Calgary, Canada

"As a coach to senior executives, I need ways to work deeply with people who are skeptical about anything non-linear. Charlie combines in-depth understanding with practical methods. His insight and intuition make him a master. Better still, unlike many masters, he is as unpretentious about himself as he is generous with his knowledge. As a learner, I feel safe to be exactly who I am, because Charlie is so straightforward about his humanity."
Steve Levin, organizational development consultant and executive coach

"Charlie, you have this incredible ability to notice what is missing from the whole, and then you help to restore fullness. Or, perhaps I should say you have an incredible ability to notice what your clients think is a missing part of them, and then help them to find that lost part within themselves. You have helped me to find a piece of myself that I had been looking for for many years. Thank you so much for such a precious experience."
John, Philadelphia

"A good self-understanding is very important today during the tremendous changes currently ongoing in our working and social life. Attending the Seishindo workshop gave me a unique opportunity to learn mind-body connections in ways that were entertaining, energising and unforgettable. The workshop helped me to go through important changes with a larger degree of confidence and with an increased feeling of joy."
Ulf Sundberg, Business Executive

"I had a wonderful and transformative time working with Charlie and Marleen, integrating aspects of Seishindo with NLP. I believe our work together addressed two important factors in health and well-being: The role the body plays in determining our physical-emotional state (Seishindo) and the role the thinking mind plays in determining our psychological-emotional state (NLP). Melding these two forms allowed us to focus on health from a new paradigm. The body and the thinking mind are involved in an intimate relationship, and this relationship must be honored and attended to if we are to be truly healthy and whole. The Seishindo work is so valuable, and it has been years since I experienced such profound change made directly through the body in a field of support and sponsorship. Keep up the good work! You have a lot to offer the world."
Judith Delozier, co-founder of NLP and co-developer of New Code NLP.

Patrick Henckes, general manager Flection Belgium NV

"Through his intense way of working and 'being', Charlie guided me to a deeper contact within myself. For the first time I was able to connect to certain bodily parts of myself and this gave me a strong reference point to many deep and unknown places within myself. It's inspiring to continue searching and un-covering. I am thankful for this opportunity."
Jerko Bozikovic, Trainer & Coach, Antwerpen, Belgium

"I have attended a Seishindo workshop last October in Antwerp and not only did I totally enjoy myself, meet new people and make new friends, but I really learnt a huge amount of new 'stuff' about me and my body. As a professional breathwork facilitator I am still using techniques and exploring ideas that were demonstrated in such a wonderful way. It is rare that I have the opportunity to take part in a workshop of such high calibre. Charlie's method of teaching is very experiential, engaging and enthusiastic. It is a true testament to the heart and soul that he brings to his work and his very fortunate clients. If you are up for an active weekend where you can rally learn how to start transforming your life I recommend that you consider booking yourself into this workshop."
Geoffrey Smith, BreathWork Facilitator, La Hulpe, Belgium

"The workshop gave me insight into how I function and how I can improve the quality of my life by going to my centre. I learned how important breathing is and how to find my strength and balance again.

Charlie Badenhop is an inspiring and very competent person. It is six weeks since I attended his workshop. I do some Seishindo exercises regularly, and I feel more powerful since then. I still experience the workshop every day!"
Rob Driessen, HR Manager, Antwerpen, Belgium

"I first met Charlie at a workshop facilitated by Stephen Gilligan and I was immediately interested in Charlie's concept of "somatic intelligence."
In attending one of Charlie's workshops at a later date, what I recall most is the warmth of his compassionate presence, and his loving care for all of the students. He offered me a new way to understand and appreciate myself.
Since then i have been to every workshop Charlie has given in Europe. I have learned many things, and what still impresses me most is the feeling that I get of being connected with myself, the other workshop participants, the world, and the universe. A feeling that is so difficult to put into words.
I always take home the knowledge that I am a wonderful, unique person, who is "just right" the way I am." Kirsten Hinrichsen, Heilpraktikerin, Munich

"...For the first time in my life I feel love for myself. My somatic intelligence has done its work, and this is a very interesting process! Something has really changed. And after all of this, I find myself feeling healthy, without pills or any special supplements, for the first time in many years. ...
Corry Brons, Belgium

"...I've had migraines and fibromyalgia for years. I took pills, talked to doctors, and tried lots of different remedies, but the pain just got worse. As a last resort I took the Seishindo 'Finding Inner Peace' workshop on October 30, 2006, and I am feeling blessed for having done so! It's been several weeks now and I continue to feel better each day. No more pain pills because I don't hurt as much and believe it or not, my vision has also improved!..." Shelley Kaufman-Young, Virginia, USA

"...My energy is much more even and I'm not losing focus or having to push through fatigue. What a wonderful relief to not have to use so much energy to manage my pain. I feel like a person released from jail, and ready to explore a new life!..."
June Holley, Ohio, USA

"Charlie Badenhop is a gifted somatic healer with unique skills and intuitive capacities. His deep understanding of mindbody relatedness comes from extensive experience in many areas - e.g., aikido, hypnosis, NLP, and Japanese healing arts - and is especially helpful to all those interested in promoting wellness in self and others."
Stephen Gilligan,
Ph.D., the founder of Self-Relations Therapy and author of "The Courage to Love"

"The Seishindo workshop "Simple Mind Pure Heart" was the most profound and extraordinary workshop that I have ever attended. Profound because of the miraculous changes that have occurred in me and extraordinary because of the unique methods used to generate those changes."
Angela Scherma, Sales and Service Manager; Australia

Charlie, I didn't know what to think at first. I've seen you do some wonderful work in person, and I was hard put to understand how you could do anything vaguely similar over the phone. Now, after having had a few phone coaching sessions with you I am a believer. It is fascinating for me to begin to better understand how you slow things down and soothe people, whether in person, on the phone, or the middle of cyber space. I am looking forward to taking your teleclasses on somatic coaching. I really want to learn how to do what you do, so I can reach a larger coaching audience.
Frank Masters, NYC
